Cairo & Nile Valley

Overview

The Nile River flows northward from the Egyptian Sudanese border south of Egypt reaching across the desert into the Mediterranean Sea. This stretch all along the Nile represents the Nile valley and the fertile fan-shaped Nile delta at the capital Cairo. In the south, the construction of the Aswan High Dam has transformed the mighty river into a much tamed version. Famous towns along the Nile Valley to be visited are: Cairo, Fayoum, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel.

Cairo, the amazing, chaotic, vibrant, colorful capital of Egypt. With a population of 21,3 Mio, living in the greater Cairo Metropolitan area, it is one of the largest cities in the whole of Africa and the 6th largest in the world. Full of history, cultural life, vibrant with the laughter of its people and the honking of car horns pushing through the streets.

Then when the Nile Valley is addressed, the Nile Cruising Boats between Luxor & Aswan in Upper Egypt are a top highlight especially in the winter season, when the weather allows comfortable travel. There is a wide variety of cruising boats ranging from deluxe huge modern boats to tiny Dahabeyas that enable you to experience the magical Nile River and its historic sites along. There are also boats behind the Aswan Dam, exploring the area of Lake Nasser and the mighty Abu Simbel as well as other heritage marks.

Luxor, once an ancient Egyptian capital, known today as the world’s greatest open-air museum. Set at the banks of the great River Nile, both east and west banks are full of archeological sites to be explored. From the tomb of Tutankhamen in the Valley of the Kings and the magnificent sunset views at the majestic temple complexes of Karnak and Luxor to the exciting and fun Nile cruises, this city is full of magical moments to be experienced.

Aswan is one of these places in the world, where you immediately feel comfortable. The place and its inhabitants, paired with breathtaking nature and historic sites will give you serenity and gratitude. From here, you can easily go visit the temple of Abu Simbel and its “holy of holies” – a room in which the sun shines perpendicular twice a year on the face of Ramses II. Architectural preciseness that has fascinated people since it was built until today.
